Cosmic Coincidences

For those of us lucky enough to live in or near the path of the 2024 total eclipse, we had the chance to witness a cosmic synchronous event. This celestial incident — or coincidence – happened because the moon was just the right size, just the right distance from earth, and on the perfect orbital path to pass between the earth and sun for a few awe-inspiring shadowy minutes.

So, what about it? Cosmic coincidences like this can alter our sense of reality because they have the power to awaken feelings of wonder, awe, and fear at the same time. Solar eclipses have become symbols of transformation, balance, and connection under the influence of universal forces.

Humility and the greater good

Psychological studies have shown that when we experience something that is extraordinary or immense in scope, it leaves us feeling comparatively small in the grand scheme of things.

We feel a sense of humility when we witness something that is beyond us, something transcendental. The theory is that we become humble about our abilities, less focused on ourselves, and more concerned with the greater good of humanity.

Living in the moment of space and time

Amazement in the universe may be a way to come together or to pause and recognize this awe-inspiring earth and universe we are lucky enough to call home. The rare alignment created a spectacular experience, and although only a few minutes long, it was a welcome relief from everyday stress.

Witnessing eclipses gives us a feeling of presence. We are in the moment instead of obsessing about the future or wallowing in the past. We are truly living inside the experience of space of time, like an elevated state of mindfulness or mediation.

Synchronicity of Life

We can compare the small window when the moon aligns with the sun to our own internal syncing with the universe.Psychologist Carl Jung introduced the phenomenon of synchronicity, describing uncanny simultaneous experiences – something more than just pure coincidence.

For instance, if we dream of an old friend and they call us a day later out of the blue, we may be experiencing synchronicity. This awareness may help us notice and understand the power of our mind to influence the universe around us.

If we receive an unexpected gift that perfectly suits our needs or find ourselves in the right place at the right time, it might be the power of our internal desire aligning with the forces of the universe.

Awakening to our shadow

Astrologers understand the significance of the shadow in the eclipse. The celestial event of the moon shadowing the sun signifies the importance of looking at our own shadows – the sides of our personality we may not want to bring to light.

While Freud referred to the unconscious, Jung referred to the shadow as our deep subconscious suppressed because of family or society influences. Perhaps now is the time for us to peer into this shadow self and accept it as part of our whole persona.

Most dark sides of our personality are related to money, sex, or power, fraught with emotional baggage and insecurities. By peering into and accepting these shadows, we can understand ourselves better, and even experience a spiritual awakening.

When we accept our shadow, we reclaim that energy.

The power of collective energy

The synchronicity of the sun and moon aligning with the earth can connect all of us in a “collective effervescence,” or shared energy. And when human beings share profounds experiences, our emotions are magnified.

Certainly, all the spectators gathered in an enormous arena or on a mountaintop to watch the eclipse could feel the shared energy. The eclipse’s shadow of totality was about 100 miles wide, scanning continents along the moon’s orbit.

It is possible that this celestial synchronicity created a positive energy that everyone in or near the shadow could feel on a primal level.

Living in the moment

Maybe for a brief moment in space and time, we all felt a sense of wonder at the world, at the enormity of the universe. A shift in perspective is sometimes the best gift the universe can give us, that universal nudge to give our full attention to the revelations all around us…and within.

I felt the wonder when the sky darkened and the peepers chirped. Seeing families gathered in their front yards with solar glasses, old and young. I had a strong heaviness in my my chest, like a goodbye to things passed. A friend burned sage in her yard hoping to release and rid the things that weugh us down. Another great blog Amy! Thanks for sharing. Carrie Vittum 🤗

    1. Thank you, Carrie! It’s so interesting how everyone had such personal, yet collective, experiences. I guess we have to look inside ourselves to see outside more clearly.

I found it interesting that it took a phenom like Earth, Moon, and Sun to bring us back yo the urgency for harmony and delight…the feeling of something out of human control.🤞
